The doctor had just completed his examination of the teen-age girl:

"Madam," he said to her mother, "I'm afraid your daughter has syphilis."

"Oh, dear," exclaimed the embarrassed mother.

"Tell me, Doctor, could she have possibly caught it in a public lavatory?"

"It's possible," replied the physician after a moment's reflection, "but it would certainly be uncomfortable."
